Alocasia – is one of the most beautiful foliaceous flowers. It is called “elephant ear” because of it’s leaf shape and size.

Water it less during winter.

It is recommended to regularly remove yellow leaves – this will stimulate new leaf growth. Alocasia likes moisture and heat, the temperature during winter should not be less than +18˚C.

Areca L.

Areca
Assessing: 0

Areca is one of the palm species.

Palms fell best in spacious rooms , and even better – in winter gardens, private home stairwells or light corridors. The best place is near the east, south-east or south-west window because it can lack sunshine on the north side of the house. However, you should avoid  putting it under direct sunlight.

Watering. It is recommended to water palms frequently. However, it is not right to leave water in the tray, so the roots won’t start rotting, this is true for any plant. During the dry period or if the room air is dry, you should spray the leaves with water and sometimes clean them with a moist sponge.

Growing. When growing a palm, it is recommended to frequently ventilate the premises. You can take the palm outdoors during summer, you just need to be sure to protect the plant from direct sunlight.

The palm should be transplanted only when it doesn’t fit in the pot, because these plants do not like when their roots are being touched.

Asplenium nidum L.

Asplenium nidum
Assessing: 0
This is an epiphytic fern native to moist -rich tropical woods. They grow on the branches of tall trees in tropics. Sturdy leaves of the fern touch each other by edges and thus form some kind of a nest, which reminds of a big dish covered with fallen leaves of trees. When leaves rot, they form compost, same as on the ground, which provides the plant with necessary nutrients. Birds' nest fern grows best in shady areas, in a moist-rich room (at least +16C). The plant does not tolerate soil that is cooler than the air. Soil has to be moist all the time. Water with soft lukewarm water. Spray leaves quite often. Fertilize in spring - summer season every two weeks using mineral fertilizers that are diluted with water twice as much as recommended on the package label.
Plant Bird's nest fern into humus, moist and gravel soil that is well drained or the soil that is specially designated for ferns.
